Parents and teachers said the problems are piling up at Evans Elementary School in Oviedo.

“These children deserve better, as do these teachers,” another parent said.

The school moved the students out of portable classrooms last month after complaints to the district about health issues some students were having.

Teachers said the air quality in those portables has been an ongoing issue for years that keeps getting covered up.

Teachers and parents packed a school board meeting Tuesday night to address the ongoing issue.

Parent Krysten Bair said her young son has been having health issues after spending weeks in those portables.

“The concerns of mold and humidity appear to be taking a back seat to the school’s public image at this point,” Bair said.

Bair started complaining to the principal, then to the district last month after the temperature in the portables reached into the mid-80s. On Sept. 23, students were moved out of the portables into the main building until the air conditioning and air quality issues are fixed, but Bair said that led to another problem.

“Our solution to air quality issues and broken AC units is to put 40 kids in a classroom. This is unfair to teachers. This is unfair to students. It’s unfair to students. We’re still waiting for a response.
